Tompkins) Subject: Summary of 11-7-95 meeting X-Mailer: Eta members, The following is a summary of the 11-7-95 CCLE meeting. The members present developed the FINAL version of our PROBLEM STATEMENT which reads: Our eductional system does not encourage or enable students to a) synthesize knowledge, b) solve problems creatively, and c) think critically. Consequently, many of our students do not acquire ownershiip of knowledge, expand their views of the world, or alter the way in which they think about it. The latter half of the meeting concentrated on developing causes that result in the problems outlined by the PROBLEM STATEMENT. To this end, we made use of a Cause-Effect diagram which had four main components: Facilities, Policies, Procedures, and People. The members present broke off into four groups of two and began developing a list of causes in each of these categories. These groups will plan to spend the first half of the next meeting (11-14) completing the lists within their groups.
