Builders of complex software applications are thus faced with the need to integrate data residing in different sources, and accessible over some communications network. In recent years, several research projects have explored the use of logic-based frameworks for software integration and semantic data integration. The aim of the proposed special issue of the Journal of Logic Programming is to highlight such applications. Topics: Authors are invited to submit papers on all aspects of the use of logic for integrating heterogeneous data and software. DOOD focuses on research in theory and implementation of deductive and object- oriented databases, the integration of object-orientation and of rule-based deduction to provide a single powerful framework for intelligent database systems, and advanced applications of such systems. In addition to presentations and invited talks, DOOD'97 will include a series of high-level tutorials which will be integrated into the technical programme. To speed up the process of reviewing, authors are requested to submit by electronic mail.
