They have abilities for multimedia information composition, construction of presentation plan, intelligent simulation, and adaptation of the presented material to the peculiarities and style of individual users. To be capable of performing these functions, interactive multimedia systems should possess and utilise knowledge about: o Domain o User requirements o Tasks o Context of interaction o Content of the stored information. The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners in developing interactive multimedia systems. The aim is to investigate the industrial needs and requirements on representing knowledge for such systems, and identify open research problems in the area. Some of the topics that this workshop should address are: o Generic Knowledge Representation Schemes for Multimedia Information Repositories. o Knowledge representation for multimedia information integration, coordination and presentation. o Case studies and experiences on developing and utilising knowledge bases for interactive multimedia systems. The target audience includes both researchers and practitioners in the area of interactive multimedia systems. SUBMISSION Authors must submit a 2-pages abstract before the 29th of February 1996 via email in plain ASCII. Submitted abstracts will be judged on the quality and originality of the work they describe. Due to the restricted number of presentations, qualified submissions will be accepted on priority basis. Authors must address the motivation of their work, related background work, innovative features, as well as limitations of their work. Paper presentations will not exceed 15 in order to have ample time for discussion. Authors of accepted submissions will be asked to provide a full paper describing their work before the 10th of April 1996. Comments to authors will be provided by 30th of April and the deadline for final paper's receipt is the 20th of May 1996. Attendees will exchange working notes prior to the workshop and will be encouraged to discuss and make comments to others' work in order to settle the ground for fruitful discussions during the workshop. As it becomes common for desktop machines to have gigabytes of storage, for departmental machines to have terabytes of storage, and for large organizations to have petabytes of storage, algorithms and software for the management, mining, and analysis of data are becoming critical. An integrated solution is needed that subsumes data analysis within the data management infrastructure. Management of large volumes of data is an important enabling technology for both data analysis and data mining. Data analysis includes application of statistical and clustering algorithms. Data mining is the extraction of patterns, associations, and anomalies from data, and is emerging as an important component of data analysis on scientific data sets. The need for these capabilities is appearing in virtually all scientific disciplines, including environmental science, bio-chemistry, astronomy, and high-energy physics. Problems in this emerging field usually involve numerically and statistically intensive analyses or queries on large amounts of complex data. The data is often heterogeneous and may be integrated from a variety of sources. A unifying characteristic is the need to manipulate thousands of data objects, whose aggregate size can exceed that of local disk caches. Algorithms to support efficient management, retrieval, and analysis are needed that are extendible from relatively small data sets which can be processed in situ to the massive petabyte archives that are being constructed of scientific data sets. Workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together experts from these fields, as well as practitioners from application areas, with an interest in sharing ideas and insights. The first day of the workshop will be devoted to surveys and overviews, and the second day to break out groups and the preparation of a summary report. Participation in the workshop requires the submission of a short position paper on a topic or viewpoint related to the themes of the workshop. The workshop is limited to 40 participants. Topics of special interest include: Data mining: pattern recognition, association algorithms, anomaly detection, machine learning, classification and regression trees, knowledge discovery, statistical learning, neural nets, Markov models, and related topics. New paradigms (most notably the object-oriented approach) and new models within a paradigm (there are at least a dozen different OO modeling methods) are constantly being introduced. Clearly, not all methods are suitable in all contexts. Systematic evaluation is needed to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each modeling method and the appropriate contexts and tasks where it can be most suitably applied. This understanding is important for the use of existing methods and for the development of new methods. Three categories of evaluation techniques can be identified: purely theoretical (e.g., the use of ontological or linguistic framework), purely empirical (e.g., experimental comparison of methods), and a hybrid of the two (i.e., theoretical approach with empirical evidence). Although the need for such studies is well-recognized, there is a paucity of research in the area. Evaluation of modeling methods remains a challenge in information systems engineering. There is a need for innovative, effective, and efficient techniques for such evaluation. The objective of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners interested in systems analysis and design modeling methods to meet, present their research results and experience reports, and exchange ideas on the subject. Relevant topics for this workshop include theoretical and/or empirical methods to study and evaluate modeling methods used in (not exhaustive): -- Information Systems Analysis -- Business Process Redesign -- Object-Oriented analysis -- Requirement Engineering -- Enterprise Modeling -- Data/Database Modeling Work on theoretical foundations, research methods, case studies and experience reports related to modeling are of particular interest to this workshop. Description ----------- This package allows generating HTML documents easily from LP/CLP systems, including HTML forms. It also provides facilities for parsing the input provided by HTML forms. Its overall purpose is to facilitate the development of WWW applications using LP and CLP systems. The package has been developed for SICStus Prolog and our \&-Prolog/CIAO systems, but should work as is or be easily adaptable to other Prolog and CLP systems.
