It is a major event in computing in the country, and aims at disseminating both theoretical and practical results of research in the field. The symposium is now well-known for the quality of the technical papers and the tools presented in previous years, as well as the invited talks delivered by renowned international speakers. This is caused, among others, by the exploration of novel applications areas where handling of pictures, audio, and video is a prevalent part of the application. To support multimedia applications, traditional database management tasks like searching, sharing and, storing of data have to be reconsidered. Although some multimedia DBMS-prototypes have been developed, the functionality and composition of required components are by no means clear. The Advanced Course "Multimedia databases in perspective" will focus on these topics. Several outstanding researchers will contribute to this course and present some of their most recent work.
