The next Badger bball game is tonight (Tuesday) at Stanford. Should be a close game. Stanford is 6-0 but really hasn't played anyone. Papers here (I'm 20 mi south of Stanford) say it will be a good test for both with tougher competition for Stanford and a road game for the Badgers. -------------------------------------- Date: 12/27/94 8:30 AM To: Jon Graham From: KRONZON@ACFcluster.NYU.EDU Did everyone who belongs to this list go to the HOF bowl ???? I've had a chance to see a (CLANK!) Badger basketball game and it was not a pretty sight. They shot about 46% from the field and had a bunch of unforced turnovers. Finley shot 6-18. He had one 2 minute hot streak in the first half but nothing else. Griffith had early foul trouble and was completely outplayed by a 7'1" freshman in the first half. The Badgers didn't seem to have any half court offense with everybody just standing around watching someone shoot a (CLANK!) jump shot. Wisconsin needs a point guard to run the offense. They were completely out-quicked and out hustled. The ref's seemed to call a whole bunch of ticky-tack fouls everytime Stanford came inside, so there was alot of early foul trouble for the Badgers. Wisconsin never seemed to get inside until the game was all but over. -------------------------------------- Date: 12/28/94 6:59 AM To: Jon Graham From: KRONZON@ACFcluster.NYU.EDU All I saw was a 10 second clip on ESPN which showed Stanford scoring repeatedly. Obviously, the Badgers SHOULD be a top-20 team and they SHOULD be much better than last year and they SHOULD be the best team in the Big Ten and they SHOULD make the final 8 or maybe even final 4. But, there is something wrong. Shooting percentage is an obvious thing wrong. That would be good news. Shooting can get better. But, it could be coaching or point guard or something less tangible that won't get better. Last night I saw the Buckeyes at St. John beat a terrible Morgan State team. I'm the furthest thing from a Buckeye fan, but I do like Randy Ayers. A lot. Let me tell you something; I'm worried about Jan. 11. The Buckeyes are giving it everything every time they go out there. They are even starting to believe that they are nowhere near as bad as everybody says. That could be trouble for the Badgers. The Badger's best hope is that I think the Buckeyes match up badly against the Badgers. The two best Buckeyes are Rick Yudt and Antonio Watson. Watson is fine against similar-sized players, but Griffith should be able to stop him. Yudt is a very, very good player, but unfortunately will be matched against Finley and I think Finley can easily handle him. So, that should neutralize the Buckeyes. Could neutralize the Badgers too, but I don't think so. Plus, given their lack of depth, the Buckeyes should be softened up by ten minutes left in the 2nd half. My other worries are that the Badgers will believe what they read and take the Buckeyes for granted, which would be certain doom or that Carlos Davis, the Buckeye freshman that keeps getting better every game, or Doug Etzler, the senior point/shooting guard will have a big night. Then, unless the "real" Badgers show up for the first time this season, the Buckeyes will win. I'm not very happy about the Badgers. Look how hard the Buckeyes had to work to sink to where they are. The Badgers seem to be doing it without even trying!
