But I didn't know > whether I should install perl in winNT or not, because there was > already a perl within cygwin. I decided to use perl in cygwin. You'll need to install "ActivePerl" (aka perl compiled for win32) to compile shore with on NT. And it should be in your path before the cygwin version of perl. The "win32" version of perl is needed because of various pathname issues between cygwin and native NT tools. It is possible that it might work, but there are a lot of things in the build system that make stuff work on NT, and it is just easier to install the freeware "ActivePerl" than worry about it. > Then > I started to compile shore storage manager just following the steps > in installation guide.First I was told that msmpdb60.dll was not > found in the path, so I add its path to PATH; It sounds like visual c++ is setup differently on your system than the way the shore installation instructions assume it will be setup. There is a script, VCVARS32.BAT that you need to run to setup the MS environment correctly to use visual c++. It is usually located in the same directory that the cl.exe executable is. Start a ms-dos prompt window, run the batch file, and then start the cygwin shell in that window (typically /bin/sh). Visual c++ should be able to find its various components then and be able to work. You can verify all this without trying to compile shore by just trying to compile and link an ordinary c or c++ program with visual studio at the command prompt. If that works, shore will probably compile OK.
